To all coaches for the “Slice of Knowledge” Tournament:

We are looking forward to next week’s Friday night tournament.  Be sure to bring your buzzer systems, because with both Varsity and JV we will need nearly all of them.  For this tournament, all quizzers must be in uniform shirts, just as for the IHSA or Masonic tournaments. (30 point penalty if they are not.)

Be sure to encourage as many family and friends as possible to attend and see your teams quiz.  We also want to encourage them to join us for the meal.  Again, the basic schedule is: 4:00 – 6:00, three rounds of quizzing; 6:00 – 6:45, supper; 6:45 – 8:00, last two rounds; 8:00 – 8:10, awards ceremony.  (BTW, the trophies are completed and waiting to be handed out even now.  If you don’t know why I mention this, that’s OK, you don’t need to know.)

For the meal we will feed your team members and one coach for each team.  There will be a limit of 12 members per team, so if you have more, you will need to arrange to pay for them.  When we serve the pizza, we will put you on the honor system.  We will know the team members by their uniform shirts, and we will trust those who say they are coaches (and we will feed bus drivers, too).  Each of you will get one or two slices of pizza, a drink, and some kind of dessert.  Anyone that would like a third slice of pizza will need to pay for it.  All of the other guests will buy their pizza at the very modest price of $1.50 per slice, and $.50 for a can of soda or bottle of water.  (We will have plain cheese, sausage, and pepperoni.)

I need your help.  Please check with your quiz members and send me by next Wednesday morning as accurate an estimate as you can of how many people will be coming from your school (team members and spectators).  If anyone decides at the last minute to come and join us for the meal, that’s fine.  We do not want to discourage anyone.  But we need something to base our pizza order on.  We are getting the pizza from Geo’s of Metamora.

We will try to have a coaches’ meeting in our teachers’ lounge at 3:50, before the start of quizzing.  I hope to have one person in each room besides the moderator to either score or time, but you will need to help provide the other person we need.  Besides the trophies for the two winning teams I had announced earlier, we are also going to award medallions to the top five scorers in each division, based on the first 3 rounds.

Don’t forget, our goal is to have an enjoyable evening of competition and fun, and promote scholastic bowl.

If you come in a bus, even a minibus, it would probably be best to let the teams out in the front of the school, and then park in the back, on the east side of the building.  There is a driveway on the north side which leads through a parking lot to a larger lot on the east side.  A full size bus can be very conveniently parked there, using a double space, and be pointing right to the east exit which goes out on Wilson and back to a traffic light which makes it easy to get onto War Memorial Drive.  Students can load up very conveniently in the back lot.

If you have any questions, or there is anything I have left out, please email me.
