Studio! Where you can finger paint a night sky!
Preparing for Halloween!!
The Lava Waterfall In their classrooms the children are talking about "Same and Different." To make a Lava Waterfall (Emerson's idea), we explored different lava-colored paper. These pieces were made from all different kinds of materials: foam, a variety of fabrics and papers. We explored them and considered how are they the same? How are they different?
"This one is soft." "This one is krinkly." "This one is transparent." (Yes, one friend used the word transparent and explained you can see through it!)
The we made the lava waterfall and used it in the Halloween celebration as a decoration!
Making Haunted Houses and Shows
Using building materials, shadows, some scary figurines and props, we made scary haunted houses and shows.
Painting a night sky
This began as an exploration of night sky colors...
We used white crayons to create ghosties in the night sky and covered the ghosties with a flap so that whomever was to look under the flap would get a surprise! Friends talked about how it is scarier to be surprised by a ghostie rather than to just see one. Then we wanted to make the ghosties even easier to see so we painted them on, added some bats, and wrote boo!
Making Dragons! First we looked at pictures of dragons and talked about what they looked like, sounded like, and other things we knew about dragons. Then we got to work making green model magic, by mixing blue and yellow!
Once we had green, it was time to sculpt our dragons, by pulling, pushing, and pinching.
Our next step in this multi-step project was copying our first sculpture and making a second, out of tin foil! This was a challenge, but friends did it!
Finally, it was time to draw the dragon we had made by looking at our first sculpture and then very carefully copying the shape that we saw. Another challenge, but friends did a terrific job! After they were finished, friends also included a drawing of the treasure the dragon was guarding!
After we were finished... An exhibit with discussion
Can you make a face like a dragon?
