Hola Amigos!

Lower School Spanish

Señora Anabelle Montero-Hricz

The goals of the Spanish program is Lower School are to teach the language in a non- threatening environment; provide the students with the appropriate age materials and activities  so they can start gradually  learning and enhancing their  language skills. Instructional methods in the Spanish classroom include: TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Story Telling, formerly called Total Physical Response), songs, poems, commands, cooperative games, visuals, technology, books, dialogues, listening, reading and writing activities.  These activities support a variety of different learning styles.

Spanish Binders:

Everybody in Lower School has a binder.

For students in grades K- 2nd all binder work is completed in class.  Students do not take their binders home.

Students in grades 3-5 may take their binders home if they have not completed their work in class or to study for the next class.  It is important to remind your child to bring their binder back for the next lesson so they can keep up with the work.

The written assignments in a student binder are designed to support their class work and assess their knowledge after each unit.  Students work faster each year because they know more words and they review the material from previous years and add new topics into their growing vocabulary.

The binder is an essential tool and great resource for Spanish class allowing students to review vocabulary and practice.  This provides the student with independence and more confidence towards the subject.

Remember (3rd-5th) if your child does not bring the homework or his/her binder to class, I will send a note home and you have to sign it and return it to me. I think it is important to keep parents informed of what is going on in class throughout the trimester and this includes positive reinforcement.

Binder: if a child loses his/her binder they have to replace it. I have the master copy in my office and the parent or guardian can come a pick it up anytime and return it as soon as you get the copies done.

In order to get the best out of the Spanish class, students need to:

·        Participate in all the varieties of class activities.

·        Work in their binders.

·        Be organized and neat in their work: this includes binders or any kind or hands on work that we are doing in class or they need to bring from home.

·        Follow oral and written directions.

It is always a pleasure teaching your children.  Please, if you have any questions or concerns, please email me at: amhricz@penncharter.com  I will be more than happy to email back to you.

Thank you,

Sincerely,

Anabelle Montero-Hricz
