HARC Environmentally Friendly Drilling

The Houston Area Research Center (HARC) and Texas A&M's GPRI have created a comprehensive program that seeks to lower the environmental impact of oil and gas operations in environmentally sensitive ecosystems.  The Environmentally Friendly Drilling Program (EFD) is working on technologies to reduce the surface footprint of access roads and well pads, reduce emissions from drilling operations, and reduce or eliminate waste fluids from the well site.

Over 100 technologies make up the package of EFD practices. To select the optimal set of technologies, a systems engineering optimization model has been created and is available for use by legacy sponsors of the project.
