How does it work?

PDFCropper prepares pdf by using so-called frames. Frames are areas defined through the program. You can add up to 10000 frames per each page and specify frame location, size, its ordinal number.

You can specify if a certain frame has to be prepared
via cutting or via reflowing ("Reflow Frame" option).

When frame is prepared via cutting, resulted page will display only the area occupied by the frame.
Depending on "Crop Settings" and "Crop" dialogs parameters and page/frame attributes, a frame can be resized, scaled and rotated.

PDFCropper does cutting by changing so-called "Crop Area" for original pages. Because of using this trick - quality of pdf prepared via PDFCropper is much higher than pdf's prepared via ordinary tools that do the work by converting text pdf's to images pdf's. Also converting speed is much higher and size of produced pdf is almost the same as original one (in case if "Images pdf" setting in "Crop" dialog is turned off).

When frame is prepared via reflowing, the program will extract text and images located in the area occupied by the frame (if possible) and draw them on created page(s).
Depends from "Crop Settings" and "Crop" dialogs parameters resulted page(s) will be created with specified size, margins, orientation and scaling.

You do not need to define frames for each page separately. The program allows you to use same frames settings for different pages.
There are 2 ways how this can be achived:
  1. If "Odd/Even pages" mode is turned on, odd and even pages use separate frames settings (for example, if you change frames settings for page 2, the same settings will be used for page 4, 6, 8 etc.). If "Odd/Even pages" mode is turned off, all pages use the same frames settings.
  2. You can combine pages into groups (see "Page Groups.." dialog). Pages that belong to the same group use same frames settings (irrespective of "Odd/Even pages" mode).
In case you have pages that are very unique by frames settings, you can mark these pages as "custom" pages. In that case each "custom" page will use its own frames settings.

To simplify defining frames, you can use "Auto frames" function. Besides of defining frames, the program can also detect if frames can be reflowed, find empty pages and mark them as skipped (skipped pages are not included into prepared pdf) etc. "Auto frames" function does the work by detecting and using so-called "Inked area". "Inked area" is the smallest area that contains any text or drawing. Frames locations and sizes are specified depends from "Inked area" location and size.

When
"Detect frames area" option in "Auto frames" dialog is turned on "Inked area" is detected for whole page. Sometimes it is not what you need, because unnecessary areas (headers, footers, page numbers etc.) are included. To exclude these areas you can specify manually so-called "Frames area" (gray frame). In that case "Inked area" will be detected inside "Frames area" (turn off "Detect frames area" in "Auto frames" dialog, otherwise "Frames area" will be reassigned).

Note: If you have any problems with preparing an pdf or doubts about using the program, you can send your pdf to vstefanyuk@gmail.com, I will send you back prepared pdf.
