Hey. My name is Max Raymer. I’m 13 years old and have lived in Park City since I was born. I love to snowboard – just about as long as I can remember.
My parents set me up on a pair of skis when I was 3 years old. I thought skiing was great and totally got off on the little gate races my pre-school set up at the resort. Then I saw my brothers snowboarding and asked for a snowboard for Christmas when I was 4. That was it – I never looked back.
I’ve been riding with the Park City Snowboard Team for the past six years, and began competing in USASA events when I was 7. I have qualified for USASA Nationals for the past 5 years starting with Angel Fire, New Mexico in 2004 through this past Nationals at Copper Mountain, Colorado 2008. Every year I feel that I have progressed to a new level of skills and knowledge in my riding. I think we have the best coaches in the country. My coaches takes the time to watch my runs and my tricks. and then work with me to see how to improve the next run and the next run, and the next day of training.
USASA Nationals is a huge accomplishment for young riders, and a very exciting event to participate in each year. Other experiences are big for me in the memory book include, 1st place in the 17 and under category for the Brighton Slugfest last spring. I stayed home from the US Open to be a part of a benefit weekend for a friend who has cancer; it was a cool event for a great cause. Placing at the Revolution Tour Junior Slopestyle in Mt. Hood / July 2007 was nice, Forerunning the World Superpipe Championships in PC, Ride Utah for 3 years, featured Rider for Burton on the Ride Utah site, and Youth Wintersports Circle of Excellence Athlete in 2007 are other things that go in the box of good things. Riding pow has got to be one of my all time favortites along with film days with my brother Chris.
Training and Travel have included competition travel in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming with my coaches, plus annual trips to Mt. Hood with the Burton Team, HCSC and New Zealand in 2007/2008. I work with the team manager at Burton and several product development managers and designers to make better equipment and cool graphics. My favorite to work with are the board designers on future board graphic review each season.
I am working this year to continue to step up my level of riding. Right now, I am pretty excited about landing my backflips and mistys / fav new tricks. Cab 5’s are cool/Cab 7’s even better.
My passion is snowboarding/I love to ride. I think it is because of my love for riding that I do well – hope that always stays with me. I am currently sponsored by Burton, Smith Optics, Odwalla, Park City Mountain Resort and Cole Sport. See you on the mountain.
