Wednesday September 31st 2009 Park City Mountain Resort.
PCSBT held its first get-together of the year to introduce its new Executive
Director, Jack Coghlan and new head coach, Andy Coghlan. Over 70 people showed
up at the Legacy Lodge at Park City Mountain Resort to hear about the plans for
this year's program. Jack explained how the program would make some slight
changes to more resemble the PCSBT mission to be a competition focused program.
"A clear ladder of progression from a weekend Development Program to a 6
day a week Teen Competition Team which will give PCSBT athletes the best
possible chance to succeed in all disciplines and all levels of snowboard
competition." explained Jack. He also emphasized that the program will
"have plenty of freeriding and all-mountain exploring integrated into all
of the program levels and powder days will not be spent in the park and
halfpipe." The response was overwhelmingly positive and judging by the
number of returning members and the amount of new members that signed up on the
spot. "The team is on track for another exciting season and everyone is
excited to get on snow and start tearing it up" says PCSBT Board of
Directors member Joe Tomlinson. New for this year for PCSBT will be The All
Girls Team. This all age’s girls team will have two female coaches and is
expected to have 12-18 members. "I know that girls like to ride together
as a team and feel more comfortable with female coaches so I feel like the
atmosphere and spirit will be amazing!" says Head Coach Andy Coghlan, who
is a former snowboard World Champion and 6-Time US OPEN Champion, has over 28
years snowboarding competition and coaching experience. Andy explained to the
large crowd some exciting news about some top (semi pro) level coaches that are
eager to move to Park City and help the PCSBT rippers achieve any of the goals
they dream about. The meeting ended with a lot of empty pizza boxes, a
lot of answered questions, a lot of registration forms filled out, and an
inspiring level of excitement for the upcoming season.

Hello competitors, coaches, and parents, I regret to inform you that we have had to change the schedule once again for the Intermountain Snowboard Series for this winter. The events scheduled at Snowbasin have been cancled. The mountain was not able to provide the terrain necessary to host either event. The events at Jackson Hole have changed from one half pipe and one slopestyle to two halfpipe competitions. The Giant Slalom and Slalom races will take place as scheduled. Point allocation for nationals will now be as follows: For snowboarders, best two out of two results for GS,SL, and SBX, best two out of three for HP and SS. For skiers, best two out of two results for GS,SL,SBX, HP, and SS. I apologize for any inconvenience this creates for any of you. The changes to this year's schedule are due to issues that are beyond my control, and I will be happy to field any of your concerns. I look forward to seeing you all at Jackson Hole, and good luck in our final pipe comps coming up. |

3 parks are now open and super shred worthy. The pipe is also freshly groomed at 22 feet tall. There are a range of jumps and jibs, so everyone can dial in their tricks, from beginners to pros.

A big thanks goes out to all who helped make the swap happen this year.
Things went off without a hitch. The team was able to raise enough funding to secure
our team room at the Shadow Ridge once again this year.

The Park City Snowboard Team would like to announce it’s naming of the new executive director, Jacob Levine. His eight years of experience within the snowboard industry includes competing, instructing, coaching, judging, and event production. While majoring in Business Economics at the University of Maine at Farmington Jacob took a concentration in the Ski Industries Program, one of only a handful offered at accredited universities in the United States. As a competitor he rode in slope style and half pipe events, competed at USASA nationals four times, and won regional events such as the Budweiser Boarderfest and the Suzuki Halfpipe Jam. As a coach he has worked for Carrabassett Valley Academy, Kent’s Hill School, High Cascade Snowboard Camp, and the Park City Snowboard Team. He has also worked in the media side of the industry as ‘the Rover’ a blogging spokesperson for Snickers and Burton. Currently he volunteers with the Burton Chill program. Michael Bell, the team’s former executive director, has overseen the Park City Snowboard Team grow to providing professional freestyle and alpine training for over 60 competitive snowboarders, ages ranging from 7 to 21 years old. This coming winter the team will have a junior competitive team, a pre-competition development team, a full time competition team, and an alpine team. The Park City Snowboard Team will also be working with the National Abilities Center to provide high level freestyle coaching for adaptive athletes. When asked about how he feels about taking Michael’s place as the new executive director Jacob knows he has some big shoes to fill, and states, “I look forward to this challenge, and feel confident about the team’s success this year because we’re working with the best coaching staff and best training facilities in the country.”
