| A mailing list is not a group of addresses you create in your email client. What you do in the privacy of your desktop is your own business, but as far as group productivity goes, its qquite pointless. A mailing list is a list of email addresses maintained on a central server and assigned a single email address, such that any mail sent to the list address will get disseminated to all members.
 Mailing lists are hosted on your own server, using software such as mailman, or provided as a service by the likes of google, yahoo, care2. Although most providers through in extra features such as shared web space and bookmarks, the quality is poor and you're better off finding those elsewhere. Read: Mailing lists - how?
