Before joining the teaching staff at Oswego East High School in 2007, Kelly taught for two years at the high school level in Illinois and two and a half years at the secondary school level in the United Kingdom. At her Illinois posts, she stood as Band Director at Newton Community High School and as Assistant Band Director at Plainfield Central High School. After then attending Indiana University, where she received her Master`s in Wind Conducting, Kelly taught music at the Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 Levels (ages 11-16) in Eastbourne, England. Through these posts, she gained experience teaching a variety of music courses including Concert Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra, Choir, Music Theory, composition, and general music.
Kelly is happy to be a member of the Oswego East staff. She teaches Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Pit Orchestra, Pep Band, and Music Theory I. She is a member of the National Band Association, Music Educators National Conference, Illinois Music Educators Association, World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, Womens Band Directors International, Tau Beta Sigma, and Delta Omicron. Additionally, she works during various Bands of America and Music for All events.
Kelly owes great thanks to those teachers who have supported her throughout her education and teaching. One day she hopes to be as great as her mentors: Ray Cramer, Greg Bimm, Marc Whitlock, Dan Farris, Steve Steele, and Steve Pratt. She holds a B.M.E. from Illinois State University and a M.M. from Indiana University. Sarah Jones Prior to teaching at Oswego East, Sarah attended Michigan State University, where she graduated with a Bachelor in Music Education. At MSU, Sarah had the opportunity to sing at two American Choral Directors Association National Conferences: in 2007 with the MSU Chorale and in 2009 with the MSU Women’s Chamber Ensemble. In 2009 she also competed as 1 of 8 undergraduates nationally in the ACDA Student Conducting Competition at the National Conference. Sarah spent 4 years performing with a contemporary a cappella ensemble, Capital Green, and traveled all over the country to perform and compete. In addition to singing and conducting, Sarah’s musical background includes classical and jazz piano, bassoon, and songwriting. She is a member of the American Choral Directors Association and Music Educators National Conference.
Sarah is excited to join Oswego East’s teaching staff. She assists with the freshmen band and choir, helps with marching band, and teaches Theory I and School of Rock.
