Bands at Oswego East High School fall under two categories:  Curricular and Extra-Curricular.

Curricular

The curricular groups include Wind Symphony, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band.

Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors enroll in Wind Symphony, Wind Ensemble, or Symphonic Band

All Freshmen enroll in Concert Band.

The curricular ensembles are the most important facet of our overall curriculum as this is where the fundamentals of musical performance are addressed.

Band meets on a "Silver-Blue" Block schedule, which means that band students have a 90 minute music class on a modified every-other-day basis.  The days that students are not in band, they will generally have P.E., Health, or Resource class.  Band classes meet either on Wednesdays and Fridays, or Tuesdays and Thursdays, with Monday being a "swing" day.

These curricular groups perform in at least four concerts a year.  Wind Symphony students often perform at additional concerts, festivals, and community events.

Students, each term, complete two Patron of the Arts projects.  This requires students to attend one live "art" event and listen to/watch a recorded musical event.  After attending and watching/listening, students write a one page critique for each project.  Students submit two papers per each nine week term.

On occassion, as is the case with our December concert, an outside rehearsal is required, but notification of the date and time will be given with ample notice to make proper arrangements.

 Extra-curricular
The extra-curricular groups include Marching Band, Jazz Band, Percussion Ensembles, Pit Orchestra, and Pep Band.

Any students wishing to participate in the extra-curricular groups must be enrolled in a curricular ensemble.

The Marching Band rehearses for one week in June, various evenings in August, and twice a week in the evening during the fall.  The Marching Band performs at all home varsity football games and pep rallies.  Additionally the group travels to the OHS Marching Panther Review, a college band day, and one parade.  Additional rehearsals often occur for members of the drumline and guard.

Currently, membership is open to all saxophone, trumpet, trombone, percussion, keyboard, guitar, and bass players for Jazz Band.  The Jazz Band rehearses once a week after school and performs on two concerts.  Additional performance opportunities may occur within the community.

The two Percussion Ensembles rehearse once a week after school.  They perform during curricular concerts.  Membership is open to any student, regardless of primary instrument, within the band program.

Members from the concert ensembles are selected to play in the Pit Orchestra.  The Pit Orchestra rehearses during the months of February, March, and April.  Exact rehearsal dates and times will be established during the second semester.  Instrumentation varies based on the needs of the Spring Musical.

All band students are welcome to join the Pep BandPep Band students perform at all home varsity boys basketball games as well as all varsity girls games which fall on Fridays.  Additionally, Pep Band members perform on Fridays in the commons between Block 1 and 2 as well as at the end of the day.
