            Enriched English Class

We have been engaged in several opportunities to learn already this year in our Enriched English class.  We started the year reading a Shakespeare play, The Comedy of Errors, and visited American Player's Theater in Spring Green on a field trip.  Students worked on a Renaissance project which was either a resume or diary entry of a Renaissance character.  We also wrote plays and performed them for our classmates.  We read classic novels and wrote five paragraph essays about them.  We have worked through the four levels of grammar as we see how grammar is a way of thinking about language.

For second quarter we will continue working on grammar, but will add our vocabulary stems with the Word Within the Word program.   We will discuss our Mock Newbery books through Voicethread and will partner with two other school districts on that project.  And we will work on editorials, poetry, and short stories as we prepare for the Yahara River Writer's Contest.   Throughout the year we will continue to work in Moodle, writing in journals, forums, and wikis.

Grading
  • There will be three main areas in which you will be graded throughout the year.  The first quarter will be as follows:

            Tests / Papers / Projects   40%

            Moodle   30%

            Homework 30%

  • Grading scale is as follows:

             90-100 =  A

             80 - 89 =   B

             70 - 79 =  C

             60 - 69 =  D

             59 and below  = F

  • Late work:   Deducted 10% for each day it is late.
  • Extra Credit:   Generally I do not offer extra credit opportunities.  It is my policy that any paper can be redone within a week for a higher grade.  A paper can be rewritten as many times as you would like for a higher grade (always due within a week of its return).    In this way, anyone can improve their grade.   Tests can be retaken once if a failing grade is received.
