March 2, 2008: “A Better Future through the Past” Pastor Charlie SwartzHebrews 11:29-12:2; Revelation 2:2-7There is a drive within parents to create a better life for their children than they had. And when those parents become grandparents, they wish to pass on wisdom they have learned to their grandchildren. They know the good and the bad from their past and choose to teach their little ones the good. Christ calls us to do this in the church as well. The Spirit naturally moves us to evaluate our past and to repeat the blessed parts.
March 9, 2008: “Resurrection Power” John 11:1-45 Pastor Vonna ThomasIn this week’s lectionary text, Jesus makes the incredible and powerful statement, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die”. Then he goes on to ask Martha, “Do you believe this?” We can read this as a question to us, as well. Do we believe in the resurrection power of Jesus? Is it just something we believe in for the future? What about now? I invite us all to read through this statement of Jesus slowly and expectantly. Let the Spirit of God work in us to deepen the impact of this Truth in our lives. Blessings to you, as you do so!
