Birmingham Christmas Shelter (formerly Birmingham Open Christmas) has been operating for over 30 years and was set up as a registered charity in June 1991. Throughout this time, we have strived to provide warmth, shelter, food and company to the homeless and lonely of Birmingham during the Christmas period. We provide an essential service during a time when many other services are closed. We also depend entirely on donations and volunteers. All of our volunteers are unpaid and give up their free time. We are now open for registration for inductions and shifts. Please see our Volunteering 2009 page. Note: you must register if you wish to attend an induction. If you have not registered we cannot guarantee you a place. This year we will open at 10am on 23rd December and we will close around 3pm on 28th December. Set-up day will take place on 22nd December and we will be cleaning up on 29th December. Please try to help on these two dates as well. Videos of our Christmas Shelter for 2008 are on-line at our Birmingham Christmas Shelter YouTube channel. You can also see some photos from Christmas on our Birmingham Christmas Shelter Flickr site. We have also received a thank you note from one of our guests. Also read more about our year-long preparation, fundraising and awareness-raising on our BCS Blog.
