DRMC Scope & Organization

    1. SCOPE
The Digital Resources Management Committee (DRMC) will be responsible for creating and approving policies and procedures governing the creation of digital objects and accompanying metadata. The committee will create guidelines, adopt best practices, review industry standards, and facilitate digital project creation among OhioLINK member institutions.

The DRMC is naturally aligned with the efforts of the OhioLINK Digital Resource Commons, and will place a premium on locally created projects hosted centrally within the DRC.

The committee will have responsibilities requiring inter-operation with the Database Management and Standards Committee and the User Services Committee. For example, the DRMC will work with DMS to revise the metadata application profile (DMC-MAP) to aid in cross-institution search functionality.

Additionally, the DRMC will:
● Build on the efforts of the Digitization Projects Task Force to assess the current digitization status of member institutions.
● Sponsor training workshops in four areas: digitization of collections, metadata creation, copyright issues for digitization, and grant opportunities.
● Identify and implement additional digital projects.
● Research the possible benefits of shared-use equipment, or collective vendor pricing negotiation.
● Recommend discovery tools and media formats, emphasizing user-centered, browser-supported options.
● Address issues of quality control and digital preservation.
● Create guidance and documentation including digitization project planning and work flow, hardware and software requirements and staffing recommendations.

2. ORGANIZATIONAL STEPS

The DRMC will be a standing committee, following the structural model of the other OhioLINK Standing Committees (USC, DMSC, CIRMC, ICSC) and be comprised of 22 members: 16 from the university system, three from private colleges, and three from community colleges.

DRMC membership should be weighted towards library staff with hands-on digitization experience, as well as current collection creators. Membership can be drawn from library Archives and digitization projects staff, Special Collections departments, the OhioLINK Lead Implementers, and professional societies such as the Ohio Digitization Interest Group.
