Patron information | Ocala Youth Symphony The study of music can be an integral part of a child becoming a well-rounded adult. Not only can music promote intellectual and aesthetic knowledge, it also builds many leadership skills such as responsibility, discipline, communication, acceptance and pride. The Ocala Youth Symphony is committed to the education and professional development of young musicians. The Symphony was conceived by Cindy Robertson, Director, late in 1998 as a much needed activity for music students in the area. Mrs. Robertson collaborated with Ken Blanchard to pursue ideas for such a project. The project was presented to and accepted by First Christian Church and Rev. Douglas Moore. With the help of church members, planning began in January 1999. Auditions were held in August 1999. Rehearsals began on September 13, 1999 and are held every Monday night from 6:30 PM to 8:15 PM at First Christian Church's Memorial Hall. The Ocala Youth Symphony performed their first concert on December 12, 1999, to a "standing room only" audience. Over the last several years, the Ocala Youth Symphony has grown significantly not only numerically but musically as well. Our musicians range in age from 10 to 18. Rehearsals are held every Monday night from 6:30 to 8:30 at First Christian Church's Memorial Hall. The Symphony currently has approximately 44 musicians and is conducted by Cindy Robertson. Interested students may apply by contacting Cindy Robertson at (352) 854-7989 or Ken Blanchard at (352) 351-3002.
