Taylor Boice, the young son of Paul Boice, RCA Director of Communication, was recently rushed to the hospital in a diabetic coma, due to an extremely high blood sugar level. When he was stabilized, he was transferred to DeVos Children's Hospital where he remains in the Intensive Care Unit. He is still in a coma, but resting and showing signs of improvement. Please keep Taylor, as well as the entire Boice family, in your thoughts and prayers.
UPDATE: Earlier today, Taylor regained consciousness. He is still very tired and too confused to communicate, but he did try to say something. The main concerns now are his kidneys, which are not functioning at this time, and the fact that his brain was without oxygen for a short period of time when they were trying to bring down the blood sugar level. The doctors don't know at this point whether there will be repercussions from this. They are hopeful that he will make a full recovery. Please continue to pray for him.
UPDATE 11/9/09: Taylor continues to improve. His kidneys are now working at about 40%, which means he may be able to go home soon. The family thanks each and every one of you who prayed for Taylor and their family during this extremely difficult time.
FURTHER UPDATE: Taylor went home over the weekend! He continues to struggle with short-term memory and school will be a challenge. His friends are already organizing to help him with tutoring! God is truly wonderful! |
