°º some of our most recent adventures around Europe included some building and fixing things; while enjoying all the benefits of the most treasured local pleasures º°

In June, Gwilym and I were lucky enough to spend 4 weeks at the Surf Castle in Portugal's surfing sweet spot - Baleal Island - north of Lisboa. Gwilym designed a spunky new version of the hammock pergola they really wanted for the summer; but had trouble motivating the local builders to make it happen. We built it with the help of the crew and painted it white to suit the local style. Then there was the masterpiece of re-used treasures, a pirate ship : aka 'caravelle'. The BBQ /  DJ table that is an eclectic piece of local history and art in a new shape.

The SurfCastle is one of the oldest buildings in Baleal. Before all the tourist flats came along it was holding the fort on the lonely corner battered by the sea. Now it is being looked after by Gaucho, Ginjas and Laura and shared with some eager surfers and lovers of the sea and beautiful sunsets...
