Mr. Ajomale, Olayinka is Executive Director of the Centre on Ageing Development and Rights of Older Persons, an organization concerned with issues of social support, health, social security, abuse and rights of older persons in Nigeria. He has worked for and with older persons for over a decade advocating for their rights, conducting research, providing services and creating awareness on the challenges of old age in an economy in transition. He holds a Masters degree in Social Work from Ibadan University, Nigeria and is a regular facilitator in training programs in geriatric care and management with emphasis on elder abuse and discrimination. Presently, Mr. Ajomale is Field Project Coordinator for Nigeria on the Oxford Institute of Ageing/Wellcome Trust Research Project “Dimensions and Determinants of Health in Old Age in Nigeria and Kenya”. He is also working on developing Africa-appropriate definitions and conceptualizations of elder abuse, evidence-based social intervention of issues of neglect, discrimination and rights of older persons in the family, community and the larger African society. In collaboration with some individuals and organizations Mr. Ajomale is currently championing an Elders Rights Bill in Nigeria through the coalition – ‘INPEA Nigeria’. He has contributed to peer review journals and authored the book Family Violence: Elder Abuse in Nigeria. Mr Ajomale was Help the Aged Fellow 2006 at Oxford University. He is a registered social worker in Nigeria and the United Kingdom. He is also the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian chapter of the African Gerontological Society (AGES).
 


Dr. Alon, Sara is a Director of Elder Abuse & Neglect and Developer of Educational Program in Gerontology at
JDC – ESHEL - The Association for the Planning and Development of Services for the Aged in Israel. Dr. Alon is also a lecturer in gerontological studies at Tel Aviv University. Dr. Alon received her Ph.D in social work from Haifa University and conducted her thesis work entitled “Social Workers' Intentions to Employ Legal or Treatment Interventions in Cases of Elder Abuse”. Dr. Biggs, Simon is a professor of gerontology and the Director of the
Institute of Gerontology
in King’s College London, UK. He has participated in EC and Canadian Government briefings on dignity in later life and elder protection, and is scientific adviser to INPEA. He is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on the Challenges of Gerontology. His recent research has included World Heath Organisation’s ‘Age friendly cities’ project; ESRC study of baby boomers; and the first national prevalence study of elder abuse and neglect in the UK. Dr. Biggs research interests include the relationship between social identify and adult ageing, including the analysis of international and national social policy, the changing adult life-course, and social and personal experience of ageing. Madam BUSBY, Françoise is the director of ALMA and French National representative of INPEA. Françoise has a degree in Techniques in Nero-Linguistic Programming as well as Gerontology from Social University Pierre Mendés France, Grenoble, France. As the ALMA director Françoise has helped developed the national ALMA network from 5 centres in 1995 to 60 centres in 2009. Madam Busby has also help developed listening method at ALMA as well as training volunteers, listeners, counsellors and medical professionals working with the elderly. Dr. Daichman, Lía Susana is the President and Chair for a number of organization including the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (INPEA). She has been elected as INPEA president since 2001 in Canada and re-elected in 2005 in Brazil. In addition, Dr. Daichman is currently a consultant in Gerontology and Geriatrics at the Instituto Argentino de Diagnóstico y Tratamiento, since 1988. Dr. Daichman has a medical degree from Cordoba National University and a specialist degree on Gerontology and Geriatrics from Buenos Aires National University. She was an associate professor in Psychology on Ageing at Belgrano University from 1996 to 2001and a coordinator for the specialist postgraduate course on Geriatric Medicine from the University of Buenos Aires from 1995 to 2003. Dr. Drennan, Jonathan is a lecturer at the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems. He holds a PhD and master’s degree in education from University College Dublin, a postgraduate diploma in statistics from Trinity College Dublin and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Ulster.  He has extensive clinical experience in many areas of nursing including accident and emergency and addiction care. Dr. Lamura, Giovanni graduated in Economics at the Ancona University (Italy) in 1990, and obtained his PhD degree in "Life course and social policy" at the University of Bremen (Germany) in 1995. Since then he has been working at the Department of Gerontological Research of the Italian National Research Centre on Ageing (INRCA), where he has gained experience in international research projects in following fields: quality of life and well-being in older age; prevention of elder abuse and neglect; long term care; family care of the elderly; reconciliation of professional and caring responsibilities; migrant care workers; older workers. Dr. Lowenstein, Ariela is a Professor and head of Center for Research and Study of Aging at the Faculty of Welfare and Health Studies, the University of Haifa, Israel. Dr. Lowenstein is reputed as a national and international expert in aging. She is the chair of the European Behavioral, Social Science and Research Section (EBSSRS) of the International Association of Gerontology – European Region and served for five years as the chair for the Israeli Gerontological Society. She also serves on various Israeli governmental and local agencies as a consultant, member of various national committees and an advisor for policy planning. Dr. Lowenstein’s research areas are: intergenerational relations, theory building, family caregiving, elders’ quality of life, elder abuse, gerontological education, policy development in aging and service evaluation. Ms. Malks, Betty has over 30 years experience in the field of Aging.  Since 1997, as department director, she has spearheaded the creation of the Santa Clara County Social Services Agency’s Department of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS), bringing together all adult programs under one umbrella, including Adult Protective Services, Public Administrator/Guardian/Conservator, In-Home Supportive Services, and Senior Nutrition.  Most recently, Ms. Malks has been appointed as the North American Regional Representative for the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (INPEA) and is a member of the Education Committee of the National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (NCPEA).  Ms. Malks is a member of the National Advisory Panel of the Hartford Partnership Program for Aging Education of the New York Academy of Medicine’s Social Work Leadership Institute, 2005 - present. For full Biography please click here http://docs.google.com/View?id=dgss7ht9_23fs4gwkqk Email: Betty.Malks@ssa.co.santa-clara.ca.us

 

 

Dr. Moulias, Robert is a Professor emeritus at University Paris VI since 2002. Dr. Moulias is also on the Board of Biology and Pharmacolgy of Aging at University Paris VI since 1996. Among the many medical responsibilities Dr. Moulias is a member of Medical Commission French Red Cross between 2002 and 2005. He is the chair of the Study Group Ethics and Old Age Espace Ethique Hopitaux in Paris between 2001 and 2008. Dr. Moulias is the past president of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics, European Region (IAGG-ER) since 2007 and has been the Scientific Counsellor Federation Internationale des Personnes Agées International association of Aged Persons since 2004. Ms. Penhale, Bridget is a nationally and internationally recognized researcher for her work on adult protection and elder abuse. She is a Reader in Gerontology at the University of Sheffield, UK as well as the past Chair of the British Association of Social Worker's Community Care Sub-Committee, and former Vice-Chair of Action on Elder Abuse. She is currently chair of the Hull Domestic Violence Forum and a Board member of the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (INPEA) and the UK National Social Care Research Ethics Committee. Bridget is currently involved in a number of other research projects on elder abuse and adult protection, including acting as Scientific Advisor to the Department of Health for a Research Programme on Elder Abuse, Neglect & lack of Dignity in care settings, Academic Co-ordinator/facilitator for the ripfa Change Project on Adult Protection and three European initiatives on different aspects of elder abuse. Dr. Podnieks, Elizabeth is a Doctor of Education in Sociology from the University of Toronto. She has held nursing positions in Halifax; London, England; and Toronto. She is presently a professor emeritus at Ryerson University ’s School of Nursing in Toronto. She conducted the “National Survey on Abuse of the Elderly in Canada ” in 1991. This landmark survey was the first to be national in scope and marks an important step for understanding the extent of the problem of elder abuse in Canada. She is on the Editorial Board for the Journal on Elder Abuse and Neglect (JEAN). Dr. Podnieks is founder of the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD), the Ontario Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (ONPEA), and Honorary Chair of their Board of Directors. She is the Vice-Chair of the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (INPEA) and founder of the Canadian Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (CNPEA). Dr. Podnieks was awarded the Order of Canada (2000) in recognition for her work in the field of elder abuse. Dr. Stuckelberger, Astrid is a gerontologist and internationally recognized expert in aging. She is currently a senior lecturer and researcher at the School of Public Health of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Geneva. As a scientist, she conducts research at many levels: governmental agencies, European Commission, several United Nations specialized agencies and programmes and NGOs. Astrid manages in parallel and in synergy with several international positions such as President of the Geneva International Network on Ageing (GINA), chair of the NGO Committee on Aging at the United Nations and secretary-general of IAGG-European Region.

Dr. Stuckelberger was nominated Judge expert of the Swiss federal extra-parliamentarian Commission on questions about social welfare and was asked to join the WHO ethics research review committee

for 2 official statements endorsed by more than 25 NGOs on the rights of older persons (2005-06) and the rights of older women (2008) to the UN human rights council. During the last decade, she acted as Deputy-Director of the Swiss National Research Programme on Aging. Dr. Stuckelberger received an Award during the 1999 UN International Year of Older Persons from the UN Secretary-General in New York and in May 2009 she was nominated among the 100 Swiss personalities of the year. Dr. Tatara, Toshio is a professor of social welfare at the Shukutoku University Graduate School of Integrated Human and Social Welfare Studies in Chiba, Japan.  Prior to moving back to Japan to accept the current position in April 1998, he was a child welfare supervisor at the Jackson County Department of Social Services in Wisconsin (July 1969 to August 1970); was a lecturer at the Bryn Mawr College Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research (October 1972 to May 1976); was a senior research associate (October 1976 to September 1977) and the director of the Research and Demonstration Department at the American Public Welfare Association (APWA) (October 1977 to March 1998), which became the American Public Human Service Association (APHSA) in 1998; and served as the director of the National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA) (October 1988 to March 1998), which was created by U.S. Congress and the U.S. Administration on Aging (AoA). Dr. Teaster, Pamela is a Professor, the Director of the
Graduate Center for Gerontology, and Chairperson of the Department of Gerontology at the University of Kentucky.  She serves on the Editorial Board of The Gerontologist, the Journal of Applied Gerontology, and the Journal of Elder Abuse and Neglect.  She is the President of the National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the Kentucky (KY) Guardianship Association. She recently served on the National Academy of Sciences Committee on Social Security and Representative Payees, the American Bar Association Commission on Law and Aging, the Center for Guardianship Certification. She is a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America and a recipient of the Rosalie Wolf Award for Research on Elder Abuse. She has recently conducted a national survey of elder and vulnerable adult abuse (National Center on Elder Abuse), public guardianship systems (The Retirement Research Foundation), and the sexual abuse of vulnerable adults in institutions (National Institute on Aging).  She is the author of over 70 peer-reviewed articles, reports, books, and book chapters. Dr. Treacy, Pearl (Margaret) has a background in nursing and sociology. She is the inaugural Professor of Nursing at University College Dublin (UCD). Formerly Head of School, she has played a key leadership role in developing nursing and midwifery education within the higher education sector in Ireland. Professor Treacy has undertaken research on: older people’s use of the emergency department; on older people’s understanding of dignity in relation to quality of life when in receipt of extended care or palliative care; and a national study on loneliness and social isolation among older Irish people.
