Reading

What a Great Idea!

posted ‎‎Jan 28, 2009 2:44 PM‎‎ by Unknown user

On Monday we will be starting a new unit on the Industrial Revolution.  It's going to be very hands on as we read about many different inventions that have made our lives today much easier.  If anyone has any of the following items that we could use, I would be most grateful:
    *Sewing machine
    *Typewriter
    *Stethoscope
    *Adding Machine
    *Telescope
*Old glasses (like from back in the day) -- just to look at!

Reading Minutes

posted ‎‎Jan 12, 2009 11:02 AM‎‎ by Unknown user

Please make sure your child is reading at least 100 minutes at home each week.  This breaks down to about 15 minutes a day for 7 days a week, or 20 minutes a day for 5 days a week.  Each Monday the students will report how many minutes they read.  Make sure you sign their agenda so that they can get credit for their Reading Minutes.  Thanks!

Book Reports

posted ‎‎Oct 4, 2008 10:11 AM‎‎ by Unknown user

Every month the students will do a book report.  I always have the rubrics available in the room, so the students can decide what kind of project they want to do.  They will know exactly what needs to be done for that report as well.  To help you help your child, here is a list of the options they have:
        *Book Cover
*Letter to a Friend or Family Member
        *Change the Ending
        *Shoe Box Scene
*Pizza Box with clues about a character
        *Interview a Character
        *Character Analysis
        *Poster
Once a semester, the students will do an oral book report.  For this report, the students will evaluate their classmates as they present their book to the class.  I will use these peer evaluations to grade each student.  The first oral book report will be in December, and the second one will be in May.

Here is a list of all the dates that book reports will be due this year:
            September 30
            Wednesday, October 29
            Friday, November 28
            Friday, December 19
            Friday, January 30
No February Book Report due to International Fair!
            Tuesday, March 31
            Thursday, April 30
            Tuesday, May 19
*Please note that these dates may change.  However, these should be fairly accurate and help you plan ahead.
