FOURTH GRADE FANFARE November 3, 2009
Our fantastic fourth grade classroom is busy learning a lot of interesting things. Here is what we have been up to:
BIBLE: Our third unit of study is on FAITHFULNESS. We have learned that God is faithful to himself and God is faithful to his people. Our memory verse has been Deuteronomy 7:9. Soon we will learn Joshua 1:9. We will also do a mini unit on THANKSGIVING.
MATH: In Math we are beginning to learn about fractions. We are learning to add and subtract fractions with common denominators. We are also learning about mixed numbers and how to add and subtract mixed numbers. Soon we will be learning about Metric measures of length.
READING: We are reading in our 2nd reader called Liberty Tree. We are working hard on reducing our time it takes to do Read and Think Sheets . Our goal is to read them in the amount of time suggested on the paper and to make a good grade on the quiz. We have started our comprehension reader called Adventures in Other Lands. Our goal is to be able to read 150 words per minute by the end of the school year.
LANGUAGE: In Language we are beginning a unit on creative writing. We will write our second book report this week. Students have worked hard on finishing their book that they chose to read for this second report.
SCIENCE: We are in our unit on plants! We were able to take a walk around the school while the trees were so pretty and try to identify the types of trees on the church grounds.
HERITAGE STUDIES: This week we began our unit entitled Newfangled Ideas. We will be learning about famous inventors and their inventions. Students will try their hand at making their own inventions.
SPELLING: We are in our 9th week of spelling. Please know that I am now posting the weeks spelling list on my website!
PENMANSHIP: Students are working really hard on improving their penmanship. We have some wonderful handwriting in this class!! After Christmas students will use ink pen on all penmanship papers.
It was great to meet with you parents for Parent Teacher Conferences. Your students are working hard. Mr. Howard has helped me to get my website up and running. Please visit it by going to the NHCA website and then going to the 4th grade website. Thanks, Mrs. Wright |
