Welcome to the Information Technology Web Site of New Urban High School.  New Urban High School (NUHS) is a public charter school approved by the State of Oregon and the North Clackamas School District Board of Education. NUHS is answering a regional need by providing a comprehensive high school for students who would rather have a different type of education to earn a high school diploma. New Urban's objective is to provide students with a blend of strong academic and workplace competencies necessary for current and future employment.

The backbone of NUHS' unique learning environment is Project-Based Learning. Instead of handing out daily assignments, teachers assign periodic projects with different components which may include a written essay and a digital project such as a website or PowerPoint presentation. Finally, students are asked give a “presentation of learning” orally to their classmates. Students work on these projects either individually, with a partner, or in a group.

What is a Charter School

A charter school is a public school and may provide instruction in any of grades K-12. A charter school is usually created or organized by a group of teachers, parents and community leaders or a community-based organization and is usually sponsored by an existing local public school board or county board of education. Specific goals and operating procedures for the charter school are detailed in an agreement (or "charter") between the sponsoring board and charter organizers. New Urban High School is approved by the State of Oregon and sponsored by the North Clackamas School District.
