Socks for the Homeless:

Once again, the sixth grade students are collecting small personal items to make holiday gifts for the homeless on Cape Cod. Debbie Bainton, from the Department of Mental Health, spoke with the students Tuesday, December 8th, educating them about the plight of the homeless and appealing to their sense of compassion.

Students were asked to bring in tube socks, hard candy, and trial/sample size toiletries, such as, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soaps, deodorant, Q-tips, and tissues. Students will be compiling these items as a team and donating them to the homeless shelter. Thank you for sending in your donations to help this important cause.

Parent Conferences:

Thank you to all the six grade parents for your continued support. It was a pleasure for team teachers to meet with all of you at the November conferences. Your insight and collaboration positively impacts your child’s educational experience here at NRMS, and is appreciated. We look forward to seeing you again in February.

Co-teaching with Social Studies – Mr. Cedeno will be co-teaching with each of the Social Studies team teachers every Tuesday starting December 16th. Mr. Cedeno will be co-teaching each Tuesday for 30 minutes per class per team. The topics addressed in class will include: current events, cultural diversity, team building activities, peer relationships, anti-bullying strategies and transition concerns. The format of the classes will change each month. For example, the first class will consist of a combined class of half Billingsgate Social Studies students and half Monomoy students for that period. This format will continue for one week. The goal is for students to be able to get to know their other fellow students and teachers, establish positive peer relationships, address issues regarding the sixth grade transition and at the same time, continue to focus on the Social Studies curriculum.

Co-teaching with Health class – Mr. Cedeno will also be co-teaching with the sixth grade health teacher, Ms. Flanagan. He will be co-teaching with Ms. Flanagan once a week for four days to discuss the anti-bullying health curriculum; definition, implications, roles, anti-bullying strategies, etc.

Enjoy the holiday break!
