01/05/09 When signing-up and using the Google applications that are not part of our suite of tools, like Google Reader, Picasa, etc. use your entire nausetschools.org (or nausetschools.net if you are a student) email in the username box. (i.e. schrockk@nausetschools.org not just schrockk).  schrockk@nausetschools.org

02/23/09 If you publish a Google Doc or Spreadsheet, and you want your users to have their own copy of the document or template, forward them the URL with &newcopy appended to the end of it.

03/02/09 Search tip 6: There is a new feature for Image Search. You now have the option to limit your results to news content, faces, clip art, line drawings, or photo content. It is easiest to start on the advanced search page of Image Search for these options.

03/09/09 Search Tip 7: The basic Google search box can be used as a calculator, even for advanced math! Here is a quick reference guide. Example: 7/8 or seven divided by eight
03/16/09 Search tip 8: If you want to search for  specific file types, such as PDF files, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, use the "filetype:" operator. Example:

03/23/09 If you saved a bookmark to a page on the Internet, and the next time you click on the bookmark, the site is no longer available, you can simply type cache:URL in the Google search box to find the page as it looked the last time Google indexed it.
 Example:
cache:nausetschools.org
03/30/09  Search tip 9: A lot of information nowadays gets posted in blogs, and sometimes a regular Google search will not find this information. Try using Google's blog search engine here: http://blogsearch.google.com/

04/06/09  If a Google search yields too many results for you, try using the Google Directory (http://directory.google.com) which provides you with categorized links you can browse. These links were chosen by expert editors, so you can easily find useful sites to start your research.

04/13/09  Search tip 10: Remember that Google automatically assumes the word "and" between all the words you put in the search box. It will return pages to you which include all of the words in the box. You do not have to enter the word "and", but, if you are looking for pages that include one thing or another, put the word OR in the search, in uppercase. You use the OR to broaden your search.

Take a look at Rockwell Schrock's Boolean Machine
 Example:
Nauset High School will return pages with all three of these terms somewhere on the page.

Nauset Middle OR High School will return pages with the words Nauset Middle School and also pages with the words Nauset High School somewhere on the page.
04/27/09  Need to know the time in another city anywhere in the world? Simply type the words "time cityname" in the Google Search box and you will get the time (and a little clock that actually shows that time!)

05/04/09  Also need to know the weather somewhere in the world? Just type "weather cityname" in the Google search box and you will get the current weather. (Put the state name, too, to make sure you get the correct town.)
 Example:

05/11/09  The Google search box can be used as a converter tool for money, bytes, measures, and many more items!
 Example:

quarter cup in tablespoons

76 in binary
10 US dollars in Euros
