Conference Overview

The 2009 Midwest Astro-Imaging Conference (MWAIC), hosted by AstroPhoto Insight Magazine, took place on June 26-27, 2009 at the NIU Hoffman Estates Meeting Center. The facility has an auditorium that seats 243 that will be used for general sessions, and classrooms which will be used for break-out sessions and vendor exhibits. Wireless Internet access is provided through the entire building. NIU Hoffman Estates is located only 20 minutes from O'Hare International Airport. Google Map of MWAIC 2009 Location 
  

The 2009 Conference included:
  • Expert speakers covering the latest in CCD, DSLR and image acquisition and processing
  • Vendor exhibits and displays

  • Craig Stark - Professor of neuroscience and astrophotography software developer, Craig will compare and contrast DSLRs vs Dedicated CCDs for astro-imaging.
  • Hap Griffin - DSLR modification expert will explain the benefits and challenges of modifying the DSLR's filtering.
  • Chris Peterson - Expert imager and meteor tracker will talk about guided imaging.
  • Robert Reeves - Author of numerous books on astrophotography will present a Getting Started session for new astrophotographers.
  • Alan Friedman - Renowned solar system imager will share some of his tricks and techniques.
  • Michael Kran, NASA Solar System Ambassador will discuss photometry.
  • Alan Erickson - Adobe Photoshop software engineer will provide insight into Photoshop.
  • Kevin Nelson - Vice President of Quantum Scientific Imaging (QSI), will present "Bias and Darks and Flats, Oh my! - The how and why of Image Calibration"
  • Bob Denny - Developer of advanced astronomy software including ACP Observatory Control and ACP Planner. Bob will host an ACP workshop.
  • Other topics and speakers tentative.

Registration

  • Early Bird Registration March 1, 2009 to March 15, 2009 - $200 for the full two day conference.
  • Registration before June 19, 2009 - $230 for the full two-day conference
  • Registration June 19, 2009 or after (including on-site registration) - $250 for the full two-day conference
  • Saturday only (June 27, 2009) registration - $130
  • Student registration (must provide proof of student status) - $150

Cancellation and Refunds

All cancellations must be made in writing via e-mail and must include your the original order number. Your attendance fee will be refunded based on the following:

  • No refunds issued after June 13, 2009
  • Refund requests will be assessed a $25 processing fee.
  • Refunds will be processed within 30 days after the written cancellation is received.
