Home v. 2.0.1

It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.” - Charles Darwin

We, as a society, and especially scientists, are constantly changing.  Quickly.  Only one hundred and fifty years ago Charles Darwin published The Origin of Species, changing how the world looked at evolution forever.  It was but a little over fifty years ago that scientists determined the double helix structure of DNA, the building blocks of life.  Now, such an incredibly short time later, scientists are able to examine the entire genome, or major sections, linking different species as ancestors through molecular stories of past changes and developments.

I feel that in education, we too need to evolve.  During post-secondary education and all forms of future employment, computers and technology are no longer the exception, they are the norm.  My goal with this Wiki is to bring forward a comfort when using computers for assignments, projects, note-taking, etc. that will become second nature - preventing the skill from blocking understanding in future study, and actually revealing technology as a powerful ally to aid in your success.

Much of your academic life reflects a lot of what Darwin states in the quote at the top of the page.  It isn't the student who is simply the most intelligent that is successful in school, but the one who can adapt to the ever changing world around them - using the available tools and resources around them effectively and efficiently.  That is what we will be doing - attempting to best use the tools and resources we have.

What we do in class, and much of what you will continue to do throughout high school, just scratches the surface of the possibilities technology has to offer.  Technology is reshaping how post-secondary education is done.  Class wikis, shared notes, clicker assessments, online curriculum, and podcast are just a few things that you might be exposed to as you enter your Freshman year in college.  By exposing you to these now, you will be ahead of many students who have never utilized these advances in education.

This is just the beginning.

If you have any questions, please email me - I will get back with  you as soon as I can.
