7E - Castles presentation

posted ‎‎Apr 21, 2009 12:16 AM‎‎ by Mr Belshaw   [ updated ‎‎Apr 21, 2009 4:29 AM‎‎ ]

Today we're going to start working on a presentation after our 'running a castle' work. Every member of the group will be able to work on this together using Google Apps!

Here's what to do:

  1. Go to this page and sign up for an account using your school email address (e.g. firstname.lastname@ridgewoodschool.co.uk)
  2. One person in your group needs to create a presentation with the name of your chosen castle as its title.
  3. The person that created the presentation then needs to invite the other people in the group to collaborate on the presentation.
  4. Each person in the group should then work on separate slides.

Your slides should include the following:
  • Where your castle is and background information (1-3 slides)
  • What different jobs the group members did and why (1 slide)
  • What equipment the group bought for the castle and why you bought it (1-2 slides)
  • How you reacted to the different seasonal events that happened (4 slides - one for each event)
  • What information your envoy found out about other groups (1-2 slides)
  • How successful you think you were and what you ended up with at the end of the year (1-2 slides)
You will have today's lesson and Thursday's lesson (when Mr Belshaw is not here) to complete this work. You should be ready to present to the rest of the class next Tuesday (28 April).

Remember, you can login and work on this at home too!

7E - Running a castle presentation

posted ‎‎Apr 2, 2009 3:46 AM‎‎ by Mr Belshaw

You need to create a presentation with at least 6 slides for William the Conqueror:

You'll need to use Google Apps Team Edition for this. The username for the other people in your group is in the format firstname.lastname@ridgewoodschool.co.uk. One person needs to create the presentation (the envoy) and then invite others to collaborate on it.

Mr Belshaw can see who created what using the 'History' tab. Make sure you do the work and are ready to present on Thursday 23 April 2009!

7E - Castles research

posted ‎‎Mar 17, 2009 2:34 AM‎‎ by Mr Belshaw

Search: http://rollyo.com/dajbelshaw/year_7_-_castles/

You are working individually, but collaboratively with the others on your table today. By the end of the lesson you need to have as many details about one castle that you have decided to run.

Use the search engine above to help you - it only searches relevant websites!

The 5W's may help you with your research:
  • What is the castle called?
  • Who built the castle?
  • Why was it built?
  • Where is it located?
  • When was it built?

7E - Create your own Bayeux Tapestry

posted ‎‎Feb 24, 2009 4:29 AM‎‎ by Mr Belshaw

Your lesson objective today is to tell the story of 1066 in as much detail as possible. You will use the Historic Tale Construction Kit in order to make your story. You will email it to Mr Belshaw when you have finished.

You MUST:

Explain what happened at the start of 1066, the Battle of Stamford Bridge and the Battle of Hastings.

You SHOULD:

Include extra details such as the comet in the sky at the start of 1066, why the claimants wanted to invade England, where they were from, etc.

You COULD:
Be biased towards one side and tell the story from one points of view (like the real Bayeux Tapestry!)

1. Go to the Historic Tale Construction Kit
2. Use at least 4 frames to tell the story of 1066 (drag-and-drop images & add text)
3. Click on Email to a Friend and fill in the boxes as shown to the right.
4. Let Mr Belshaw know you've finished and he may let you play this game about 1066!
