What's MKCC?

WHAT IS MKCC?

Mt Kuring-gai Community Connections, MKCC, is a Christian-led local group that seeks to build a sense of belonging, security, friendship and camaraderie within our community by uniting together to fight poverty. This is for the whole community, regardless of anyone’s faith or beliefs.
We want people in our community to feel connected with each other.
We also have a passion to look after the poor and to speak up on behalf of the oppressed.
MKCC is a way of combining these.

Mt Kuring-gai has a strong history of being a caring and close knit community, and we want to build on this foundation.

We hope that people in our community will share their talents and interests with others in Mt Kuring-gai, or try something new.

Have fun joining in or starting up an event or group, like:
    * learning something new
(eg. a language, table tennis, cooking, yoga, computer skills or embroidery)
    * getting together with like-minded people
(eg. those who like to sing, jog, bushwalk, draw, play board games, or do bush care)
    * coming to a social event
(eg. a bushdance, cake stall, photo exhibition, Christmas Carols, BBQ or movie night)

While having fun together we can also raise some money through some of these activities to help fight poverty.

We have partnered with World Vision as they are Australia's largest overseas
aid and humanitarian organisation.
We respect that they don't just give out
aid, but work with people to help them
become self-sufficient.

We have also taken on the cause of Mission Mexico as they work to help disadvantaged children in Tapachula, Mexico.

OUR BACKGROUND

Behind the scenes, we are a small group of Mt Kuring-gai families who have been meeting since 2008 to support each other.

Some of our families already have strong connections with those in need overseas, from helping in an orphanage in Mexico, to spending a year in Hong Kong helping the poor through Crossroads.

OUR VISION

To enrich ourselves and our neighbours through having fun and building relationships
and to empower and improve the lives of those living in poverty.

GLOBAL PROBLEM: LOCAL ACTION

"Three billion people - half the world's population -
live on less than $2 a day.

In a world of great wealth, in a world of scientific and technological wonders, in a world in which people are more aware than ever before of how 'the other half lives', that should be unacceptable.

Extreme poverty is an affront to human dignity and human rights."

Kofi Annan - Ex United Nations Secretary General

We believe that we can each make a difference,
that WE can actually DO something to change another person's life.
As a community united together, Mt Kuring-gai can offer hope to people
who are trapped in the poverty cycle.
We can provide a struggling community the opportunity to help themselves.

"Like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural.
It is man-made and can be overcome and eradicated
by the actions of human beings."

Nelson Mandela
