Oboe
Lisa Klatka,
I am a native of Strongsville and a graduate of the Ohio State University and Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. After graduation, I left the area to serve in the US Army Medical Corps. Since then I have returned to Strongsville and currently practice Preventive Medicine in Medina.
In 2001 (after seeing how much fun my kids were having in band) I finally pursued a lifelong ambition to play a musical instrument. I started off with the flute and switched to oboe a couple of years later. I have been a member of the Medina Community Band since 2004 and also play with the Cuyahoga Community College Wind Ensemble.
Section Leader
Cindy Ruhrkraut, "I'm a graduate of Brunswick High School where I played oboe from 8th through 12th grades under the direction of A. M. Sego. My classmates reminded me, at my 25th class reunion, my dream was to play at Severance Hall. At that time, I hadn't played oboe since graduation. Two years later, when I lived in New Jersey, I discovered my minister's favorite instrument was the oboe. He knew had played in school; introduced me to some people and the bottom line is I've been playing and when I retired from British Airways, I found a home with the Medina Community Band since March of 2003. In October of 2007 I played Severance Hall with the Medina Community Band. It was one of the most exciting experiences of my adult musical life. I also play guitar and sing in the church choir and have a small band at my church."

Lynne joined the Medina Community Band in 1993 and is “delighted to have had the opportunity to play at Severance Hall with the band.” She resides in Medina with her husband Bud. They have three grown sons, Jared, Ben and Tim.
Allison Hopkins, college student (Hinckley)
Monica Lenox, I started playing bassoon in high school, switching from flute to bassoon when there were no double reed players. I continued to play at Kent State University under David Debolt while pursuing an Art degree. I got my degree in Crafts and worked as a pewter-smith for 12 years before switching my art to decorative painting which I continue to do today, painting spinning wheels and other furniture. I have worked for Pet Guards Shelter, a no-kill animal shelter for 16 years, both as an employee and as a volunteer. For a few years, I played in a woodwind quintet made up of volunteers and employees of the shelter. Today I not only play with the Medina Community Band, but also with the Medina Community Orchestra. I live in Sharon Center with my husband and various pets.
