 Library

Thank you for all your input regarding the library survey. We had an overwhelming response and a huge majority wanted our class to continue checking out books during our Timberland Library Visits. Since most wanted this, it would be easy to track those of you who don’t want your children checking out. Just let me know if you DON’T want your child checking out and I will do my best to see that this doesn’t happen. The Timberland librarians do hand each child a receipt listing what is checked out and I believe it says when they are due back. They have been very accomodating and overwriting their system to make our due dates fall on our next scheduled visit.

Timberland Library Visit~Tuesday, December 1st @1 p.m.

McCleary School Library Visit ~Thursday, December 3rd @12:15 p.m.

Don’t forget your books!

Holiday Card Exchange

Our class will be involved in a holiday card exchange with 24 other schools around the USA. We will be making our cards this week as well as writing letters to share information about our class, school and our town. We will mail our cards on Friday during our field trip to the McCleary post office.

Post Office Field Trip ~ Friday, Dec. 4th

Please sign and return permission slips as soon as possible. This will be a short trip to mail our cards and tour our local post office. We plan to arrive at the post office by 9:15 a.m. and return by 9:45 p.m.

Phonics

This week we will learn the ‘sneaky e’ rule. When a word has a silent ‘e’ at the end, that ‘sneaky e,’ sneaks up and scares the first vowel into saying it’s name or the long sound.  This will be difficult for some students to remember because ‘short vowels’ have been the main focus since kindergarten. They will need lots of practice reading these type of words to become automatic in applying the rule. This week we will only focus on…’a, consonant sneaky e,  o consonant sneaky e, and u consonant sneaky e.

Spelling

This is a sight word week. These words tend to be more difficult because most of them don’t follow phonics rules. They need to be memorized and more practice is needed.

Our test will be in Friday this week.
