MarsCon 2009

5-15-08 Update

Hi everyone,

I haven’t sent out an update recently, so I wanted to get everyone up to date. If you go to http://marscon.net you will notice we have a new website. It is slowly coming together and new information is being added often. Keep an eye open for updates.

Our major guests have been confirmed. John Ringo has agreed to return to MarsCon. He was slated for 2007 but got snowed in on a book tour and couldn’t make it. So he has graciously given us another chance.

Our Artist GOH is Ron Miller. Anyone who attended Sci-Con – way back in the days of yore – will remember that Ron was a GOH there. He is listed as our Artist GOH, but Ron is a multi-faceted individual. He is also a published author along with many other achievements. Check out his write-up on our website, then go to his website and droll over his artwork. Quite impressive!

Our Gaming GOH will be Steve Long. Steve is part owner of Hero Games as well as the HERO System Line Developer. For those not familiar with Hero Games, they publish Champions, a popular Superhero Role Playing Game. Once again, check out his write-up on our website.

Last but not least, we are fortunate to have Toni Weisskopf attending. Toni is the publisher of Baen Books, succeeding Jim Baen. She has worked with such authors as David Weber, David Drake and Lois McMaster Bujold.

Also returning this year will be Katherine Kurtz and her husband Scott MacMillian, along with many of our regular guests. This is shaping up to be a good year for guests.

Our entertainment list is also coming together, although more will be added at a later date. Coyote Run will be returning to perform on Saturday Night. I think I would have been hung if I didn’t invite them back. Luna-C once again brings their comical talents and the beautiful ladies of Treasures in the Sand will be dancing for your pleasure. For all you Rocky Horror fans, Fishnet Inc. will also be returning with their crew. For you fans of Celtic Music, we bring you on EARLY Sunday afternoon the music of Poisoned Dwarf. Check out their website for samples of their music. I think they will give you something to hang around for.

I’m sure everyone on this list has attended MarsCon and know the history of our theme parties. We have been invaded by Pirates, Harry and Superheroes in the last three years. This year’s theme will be STEAMPUNK. Okay, so what is STEAMPUNK? Think Jules Verne, H.G.Wells and Japanese Animation such as Steamboy. It is a whole new Sub Culture of Science Fiction Fandom and really popular. When you enter the Con Suite this year, prepare to enter the resident of a 19th Century Inventor. You will also be invited to an Elegant Tea Party on Friday Night, so prepare your finest outfit. You can also look forward to a presentation from our inventor on how he will be “Shooting” us to the moon. Stayed tuned!

And last but not least is the FEZ OF FANDOM! What the Heck you say? Think Fan Guest of Honor and Raffle. More details to follow!
