Murray Tenove pitches in

Murray recognized that the League needed some help and offered to fill the VP position ... Thanks Murray!

My name is Murray Tenove and my family in I live in the east side of Malmo across from one of our wonderful island pars. My wife Loreesa and I moved here in 1998 with two boys, Adam and Dillon, ready to start Grade 1 and 2. You do the math. I was originally from the University  area and acquainted with the Malmo community whose hockey team regularly whooped us. At first it appeared daunting to move my family from Dawson Creek, BC where we had so many ties. However, we felt welcome and the building of the then new Malmo playground was the perfect way to start to feel connected. It wasn’t long before our home calendars became calibrated to pancake breakfasts, spring cleanups, spaghetti dinners and more.
As an engineer working with Alberta Agriculture I admit to being excited by earth moving and concrete being poured for the SLRT. It was eye opening to feel what its like as part of a mature community trying to stay up with the communications, planning schedule and disruptions. I am equally excited though by an active community that welcomes new people who want to make Malmo their home. Between my son’s newsletters and snow shoveling and building a deck on the front of our house we’ve met quite a few residents.

I am a seasoned member of a noon hour toastmasters club that has given me some comfort in speaking up and hopefully even more to be a good listener. Helping in a small way during the SLRT meetings impressed on me the need for community involvement and the great people we have had represent and support us. As for interests, water sports like swimming at Confed or sailing is right up there, especially at our cottage on Wabamun. This was another example where I was part a community, albeit seasonal, becoming a well oiled machine, (pardon).
If you hear some odd sounds our way that could be the melodious screeches of our concert band endeavors now that our boys have relinquished control of their instruments for arc welding and art options at Hairry Ainlay. I’m sure we will take the band on the road some time but we like our neighbors too much for that .
If you see a badminton net set up on the island park in front of us that’s not because we forgot to take it in again.  Its just an invitation to use it or challenge us. Looking forward to get more  involved in our great community in whatever role is needed. See you on the beach volleyball court or the cheering section.
