President
General Description
Manage the business of the
community league and ensure legal and ethical responsibilities are successfully
fulfilled.
Guide the league in setting
its policies, execute its decisions and represent the league.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Act as the chief
executive officer and the official spokesperson of the Community League
- Call and prepare,
in association with the Secretary, the agenda and review minutes for
all executive and general meetings
- Chair meetings of
the Executive Committee
- Be an ex-officio
member of all committees of the Executive Committee
- Ensure compliance
with the bylaws of the Community League
- Ensure that all
resolutions passed by the board are carried out
- Provide orientation
for the new President and other members of the Executive Committee.
- Attend or designate
another officer to attend general meetings of the Edmonton Federation
of Community Leagues and the South West Area Council (SWAC).
- Act as one of the
league’s signing authorities
- Perform other such
duties as may be specified from time to time by the Executive Committee.

Community League operations.
- Ability to run effective

Time commitment

Vice President
General Description
Assist the president with managing
the affairs of the Community League.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform such duties
as may be specified from time to time by the President or the Executive
Committee.
- Perform the duties
and responsibilities of the President in the absence of the President
- Attend Community
League meetings.
- Attend EFCL and/or
Area Council (SWAC) meetings with the President or in place of the President
- Act as liaison between
the editor of the Ragg Times and the Executive.
- Perform other such
duties as may be specified from time to time by the President or the
Executive Committee
- May act as one of
the league’s signing authorities

Secretary
General Description
To record, produce and distribute
minutes of the monthly executive meetings and Annual meeting.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Be responsible for
the keeping of accurate minutes of meetings of the Executive Committee
and meetings of members
- Have charge of the
corporate seal of the League
- Prepare and send
notice of meetings of the Executive Committee and meetings of members
- Keep a list of the
members and such other records as the Membership Committee or the Executive
Committee may direct.
- File all annual
returns of the League in accordance with the Societies Act
- Be responsible,
in cooperation with the President, for ensuring that all correspondence
of the Executive Committee, both incoming and outgoing, is properly
filed and promptly answered when required.
- Keep copies of by-laws,
minutes and other documents as required.
- Perform other such
duties as may be specified from time to time by the Executive Committee
- May act as one of
the league’s signing authorities

- Previous experience
in minute taking would be helpful.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare annual budget
for community league and building society.
- Monitor actual expenditures
as compared to budgeted expenditures and recommends corrective action
when required.
- Provide regular
reports to the Executive on the financial state of the Community League.
- Act as signing officer
with another officer for cheques and other documents.
- Oversee the maintenance
of General Ledgers.
- Arrange for an annual
audit of books.
- Prepare financial
statements.
- Prepare GST and
Registered Charity Returns.
- Maintain payroll
records and prepare T4 Information Returns.
- Invest surplus funds.
- Collect bad debts.
- Perform other such
duties as may be specified from time to time by the Executive Committee.

General Description
To plan, organize and implement
social events of the Community league.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Delegate or implement
for each social event: book facilities, entertainment, food, beverage,
and necessary permits.
- Account for all
monies expended and received; submit records receipts and funds to treasurer.
- Coordinate ticket
sales as required.
Time commitment
- Varies depending
on event.
- Two years
Program Director
General Description
To facilitate programs at all
age levels to meet the needs of residents of the community league and
neighbouring community leagues.
Work with the various sub-committees
as required.
Duties and responsibilities
- Organize programs
identified by community members that constitute sufficient interest
for program success.
- Arrange program
registration sessions.
- Collect registration
fees, submit and record receipts, provide financial report to Treasurer.
- Advertise programs.
- Recruit volunteers
as necessary.

Soccer Director
General Description
Ensure access to the indoor
and outdoor soccer programs.
Duties and responsibilities
- Chair the soccer
committee.
- Ensure that the
indoor and outdoor soccer registration runs smoothly.
- Ensure that the
team selection process is in accordance with the policies established
by the soccer committee.
- Coordinates the
activities of the various age, referee,coaches, field and equipment
directors.
- Attends Zone and
other City wide related meetings.
- Ensures that a budget
is determined for the soccer programs and appropriate fees are established.

Seniors Representative
General Purpose
To represent the seniors in
the community to the executive by determining their needs, planning
seniors’ programs in the community, liaison with city senior groups.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Be conversant with
seniors’ issues and concerns.
- Be aware of Associations/Agencies
which assist Seniors.
- Promote Seniors’
programs being offered by the community league.
- Apprise elected
officials of seniors’ issues and concerns.
- Represent seniors
on Edmonton One Voice Action Committee, Southgate Welcome Centre, South
Side Seniors Council.
- Promote Riverbend
as “Senior Friendly”

Community Advocate
Role: The Community
Advocate should act as liaison between the community league and the
city. This role should include rgular updates to the community in the
Ragg-Times. When there are issues of concern, the Community Advocate
will bring forward these concerns to the Riverbend Community League
and seek their endorsement before proceeding as an advocate on behalf
of the community league.
Responsibilities:
- Keep abreast of
City activities especially as they relate to Riverbend and including
transportation, park development, and land development.
- Attend Community
League meetings and report on updated City activities.
- Write “Community
Watch” for the Ragg-Times to keep the community updated.
- Liaise with Transportation,
Transit, Community Services.
- Act as Community
League representative on City Task Forces when requested by the City.
- Speak to Council
on issues important to Riverbend.
Note: Riverbend Community Advocate
position and description was approved at September 22, 2003 meeting
of the Riverbend Community League executive.

Role: A communication
facilitator between the Community Leagues and the Sport Committee (e.g.,
soccer, badminton, tennis) that operates within the Community League.
Job Functions:
- Attend the monthly
Community League meeting and provide a report on the sport program.
- Attend the sport
committee meeting to provide information about the board to the group.
- Act as an information
source for both groups.
- Serve as liaison
with the Sport Liaisons from the other two Community Leagues for updates
on their sport for purposes of sharing with the board.
Time Commitment:
- Two meetings per
month
- Email or phone contact
with The Ridge and Brookview League Sports Liaisons.
