Sept. 11

Today we viewed the Animals without Bones DVD.  We then had a class discussion on the importance of classification.
Carolus Linneaus came up with the classification system that we use today.  The words are in latin.  Linneaus was so enamored with Latin he even changed his name!

Our system is 'binomial' - meaning it utilizes two names to classify.  The first name is its Genus and the second is its species.
The Genus is always capitalized and the species is not.

We discussed the Classification System:
Kingdom, Phyllum, Class, order, Family, Genus, Species
