You can use

The written test/exam is close-book. You are not allowed to refer to the textbook, lecture
notes or any other reference materials.
The practical test/exam is open-book. You can refer to the textbook, the web and any other
additional materials during the test. However, you are not allowed to
communicate with others, either verbally or through the Internet. You are not
allowed to use communication softwares such as email and instant messengers
like MSN, etc. during the test/exam.

Read through the text-book, especially the
examples carefully.
Attempt practical
problems in the textbook. The more problems you have attempted, the higher the
probability that you can survive the test / exam. Practice might not make
perfect, but it certainly makes better.
Work hard continuously, not just the week before
the test or exam.
If you are weak at programming, ask your teacher
for help at the very beginning of the term. Do not wait until the week before
the test / exam. You have been warned.
Attend every lecture and pay attention in class.
Finish all the exercises on your own.
