Our first collaborative project, the HSC opened its doors in 2000 and now houses academic departments, research labs, and student classes for UW-La Crosse, Western Technical College, and Gundersen Lutheran/UW-Madison School of Nursing Western Campus. Changing the Culture of Risky Drinking Behavior: Underage Access and Risky Drinking This partnership with the Medical College of Wisconsin’s Injury Research Center, Coulee Council on Addictions, CESA #4, and the La Crosse County Health Department has grown into two grant-funded projects to reduce the negative consequences of risky alcohol use in La Crosse County. Cultural Competency Learning Modules An online curriculum and other resources to assist healthcare workers and others improve their competencies interacting with patients and their families from different cultures. Adaptable to any online Learning Management System. A comprehensive guide to the region's academic programs offered for those seeking to enter or advance in a healthcare career. Healthcare Workforce Report: Looking Forward The results of two surveys of the region's healthcare workforce are summarized into a written report and presentation that describe the factors affecting retirement and departure decisions among healthcare workers as compared to predicted hiring trends from healthcare employers.

Visit the Great River Partners for Health-e People site to learn more about health literacy, contact the partners involved in this effort, and find resources for improving health literacy.
A county-wide effort to increase La Crosse's county health ranking to number one by 2015 through the implementation of a strategic plan that focuses on improving health behaviors and outcomes in the County. Results of this pilot project will be shared with surrounding counties for their implementation. A collaboration with the La Crosse School District that provides health career exploration along with science and English studies in a college environment for high school juniors interested in a career in healthcare. A compilation of population health data for use as a research tool and information source regarding the health of our communities. Visit the scorecard directly at: www.communityscorecard.com Online Clinical Placement of Nursing Students A collaboration with Minnesota's Healthcare-Education Industry Partnership (HEIP) and HealthForce Minnesota to develop a real-time, online tool for placing nursing students in clinical sites throughout our service area. An effort to develop creative solutions for the current nursing faculty shortage through education and job placement opportunities that promote a combination of teaching and active nursing practice.
