Executive Director

Cameron Kempson, M.Ed.

I was born and raised in Asheville, NC and have spent the majority of my career working with young children in Western North Carolina.  I attended Davidson College and Furman University and graduated with a B.A. in Special Education.  I received a Master’s Degree from UNC-Greensboro in Interdisciplinary Studies in Preschool Education and Family Development.  More importantly, however, I have spent many years working with special populations in rural and urban areas in North Carolina and have come to appreciate the impact communities have on both child and family development.

While I have engaged in advocacy and education efforts related to local and state early childhood issues, I have also begun to connect with agencies and committees that address the issues of the aging population.  I consider myself a lifelong learner so I appreciate the opportunity to study and develop new interests.

I am a mother of a nine-year-old daughter and have experienced how family relationships are impacted by community, church, and social organizations.  I am so appreciative to be able to come back and live in the area that raised me and give of my time and talents to the residents of WNC.

 Our Volunteers

It would be challenging to list all of the individuals who have given of their time and talent to LightShare since its inception in 2007.  Of note, however, is the diversity of volunteers that have been a part of LightShare programming and events.  Our youngest volunteer is 7-years-old, and we have had an 84-years-young woman assist with every Shiloh activity we've co-sponsored!  We also bring together members from the Shiloh neighborhood with members from Buncombe County at large and find we move from being strangers to neighbors when we share the common language of serving our communities.

Many groups of people in Buncombe County offer their resources and energy to the community activities we co-sponsor with the Shiloh Community Association and Asheville City Parks and Recreation.  Since 2007, the following businesses, churches, and agencies have supported our events:

Dr. Perry Stamatides, DDS

Dr. Keith Black, DDS
