European Union

For the European Union, data have so far been collected on policy agendas in two policy areas (health policy and environmental policy) for two types of EU documents: preparatory documents from the European Commission (so-called "COM" documents) and written questions in the European Parliament.

An analysis of these data, along with a number of qualitative case studies on EU agenda-setting processes, will be included in a book to appear with Palgrave in the first half of 2009 (Sebastiaan Princen, Agenda-setting in the European Union, Basingstoke: Palgrave, forthcoming 2009). For the coming years, the ambition is to build up a comprehensive EU agendas dataset, including all policy areas and a wider range of EU documents. To this end, work is currently being carried out by Renaud Dehousse and Emiliano Grossman in Paris, and Gerard Breeman, Sebastiaan Princen and Arco Timmermans in The Netherlands.
