The files below contain multiple images from published news reports - these are graphs and tables used in the "real" world!
Exercise Instructions:
- Open the file - scroll through the file, looking at each example...
- Identify what type of graphing techniques are used... (Each file usually has one 'type' of graphic technique for all examples)
- Notice what each image is trying to tell you - identify the topic and the pattern
- Once you have looked through all the examples, select the image that does the BEST job in presenting its data - this may be one that you can figure out quickly, the story of the data pattern is clear and easy to see...
- Once you have looked through all the examples, select the image that does the WORST job in presenting its data - this may be one that you look at for awhile but can't really get all the info from it easily, the story of the data pattern is unclear or even disconnected from the title...
- For the best and worst - identify their strengths and weaknesses... and ponder what could be done better...
