Telecommuting from India

Greeting to everybody reading this. Namaskar!

Life in India is great. The climate currently is perfect, food is tasty, rent is low, people are amicable.

The negative sides:

1) infrastructure is lacking. Internet speed is inadequate. In big cities it is better but who wants to live there?

2) Time zone differences are bummer. I get calls from USA in the middle of the night.

3) Service can be of a low quality.

It seems that I will stay here by the end of May.

One distinctive feature is that Airtel, the local cell phone operator offers prepaid card with very low prices for international calls. Most destinations (USA, Latvia, Ukraine) cost 6.4 Rs/min (approximately $0.16). That's even cheaper than prepaid cards in Latvia for local calls only, including within the same network. The service can be flaky at times, especially at night. They are probably still coping with cable cuts at at Egyptian coasts and steep subscriber growth.
