The platform

With this I announce my Global Understanding blog. This was inspired by Google Sites, the new feature I was described in the e-mail I received this morning. I was just curious to check it out and found easy to use and enough sophisticated.

The first thing I like about it is the simplicity of configuring and using it. I am not computer challenged honestly. In the past I had installed WordPress several times and had been exploring many options to buy a commercial blogging software when my first and WordPress installation was hacked and defaced since it had not been updated for a long time.

Anyhow, I never felt inspiring to write on WordPress platform. First of all WordPress is ugly. I know that one can mold to his/her tastes but really I am not a web designer. I believe that it is better to apply one's time and talents to limited things where one can be an expert instead of being a jack of all trades and a master of none. Second, WordPress features are limited, or more correctly, limited for a casual user. These two options could be easily solved by a third party provider but I couldn't find anyone who would take few dollars in exchange to letting me to run a blog on my own domain and be free from all technical aspects.

The idea came to my mind and the name "Global Understanding" is what we all are looking for, aren't we? I know that the domain is taken but that currently is not a big priority as I will use it as a subdomain to my marketing website: http://www.latvianforyou.com.

Probably, Google has not intended to use Sites for blogging. I am trying this out and we will see how well this works. Please, consider this to be a beta and let me kindly know about any problems and bugs. And my native language is not English, so please fell free to criticize my style and correct my grammar mistakes.
