2008 #4

Hi All,

Well, the season has truly started now, so I hope everyone is starting to get plenty of court time.

Cell Phone
---------------
At our last tournament (more about that later), the 'tournament cell phone' went missing on the Saturday night.  This phone is REALLY IMNPORTANT, because it is how I text people with information, game times etc.  Can everyone please check their squash bags and ask any non-kumeu members if they have found a cell phone.  It is a 'clamshell' style Nokia, with a prepay account.  If you find it, please post it through the hole beside the office door.  Thanks.

Interclub
------------
Autumn Pennant interclub has now finished, and all four Kumeu teams showed *fantastic consistency*.  As in 'consistently poor' - every Kumeu team came 5th (i.e. second from LAST) in their divisions!!!!

Well, now that we have lulled the opposition into a false sense of security it is time to kick some ass in Winter Interclub.  Team registrations close on the 10th of May, so I need to know who is keen to play ASAP ($30pp).  Please either reply to this email, or put your name up on the signup sheet at the club.

Juniors
----------
The club does not currently have a junior coordinator.  As an interim measure we have arranged with Henderson club that our Juniors can attend their junior nights, at a cost of $5 per child per night (max $10 per family).  Henderson junior nights are Friday nights from 7-9pm.  It is our hope that once we have a number of juniors active a coordinator will 'magically' appear from the ranks of parents and we can bring junior squash back to the Kumeu club.  Note that the coordinator does not have to have a squash background as the club is happy to help arrange paid coaches etc.  If you think you could help get Kumeu juniors going, please contact either myself or Vicki Parker (kpvick@xtra.co.nz).

Tournaments
-------------------
The James Aperahama Memorial Tournament was a fantastic success.  I have to give particular thanks (again!) to all of the people that contributed to the plentiful seafood that was on offer.  I am pretty sure that James would have been blown away by the event.  BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE.

Note that there are a couple of tournaments coming up that we need to make time to attend.  These tournaments are run by clubs that really support us, so we need to ensure that people attend their tournaments.

Red Beach has a B Grade coming up from the 7th to 11th of May.  Email Matt Pepper (Matthew.Pepper@kiwibank.co.nz) to enter.
Henderson has a Masters in late June.  Expect contact details closer to the date.

Our next tournament will be from the 11th to 14th of June.  Make sure you keep those dates available.

New Members
--------------------
Dont forget about the new member bounty - there is a sheet of paper up on the notice board showing who has 'claimed' who.  If you have introduced a new member, make sure your name is on the list.

Club Night
--------------
Thursday nights from 6pm-8pm.  Come on down to get some variety in the people that you play.  All welcome.  Note that recently we have had lots of people down at club night, so try to keep games short and sweet, and that way everyone will cycle through quickly.

Thats all from me - see you on-court.

Glen.
