How to Apply the Principles

The Bottom Line

from the article:

We all know that the bottom line of business is the money.

To put it another way, we all want to know what is left when you remove all of the expenses (production costs, wages, fees, taxes, duties, etc) from the gross income.

Gross income less all expenses equals net profit.

Even in the selling of a property or house, the paid advertised price is not the actual money you will receive. There are always fees and expenses to be paid.

So when discussing the value of something, we need to look at the net value, or net profit, or net income.

Definitions of Net Value on the Web:

The value of an estate after all debts have been paid. (Federal estate taxes are based on the net value of an estate.) www.elderlaw.us/terminolgy3.htm

Net Profit :

Often referred to as the bottom line, net profit is calculated by subtracting a company's total expenses from total revenue, thus showing what the company has earned (or lost) in a given period of time (usually one year). Also called net income or net earnings. http://www.investorwords.com/3259/net_profit.html

Another way of saying, net value, profit, or income, is to say:
  • What is it really worth?
With that concept now in your mind, I want to challenge you to think realistically about your life and studies.

I want to ask you:

What is the Net Value of your Studies?
Are you studying to pass tests or studying to learn?

What will be the Net Profit?
Is your plan simply to own a piece of paper from a university?
Or will you have real ability when you go look for a job?

Are you keeping current with recent events?
Can you only discuss movies and pop songs?
What about Current events in Politics and Business?

Do you have Strategies to keep your Product line in First Place?
    Are you honing your skills?
    Have you planned your resume?

Do you have a 'Good Quality Product'?
Do you have a piece of paper from College?
Or do you have demonstrable skills?

Are you looking for immediate profit?
Do you only do what you must?
Or do you do what will benefit you in the long term?

Do you have a 5 year plan?
    What is your strategy?
    Do you have one?

Do you plan on being a leader in your field?
    Leaders have leadership qualities.
    What are yours?

Are you utilising all opportunities to Promote your product?
Are you actively watching out for opportunities?

OR

Are you Waiting for Someone to offer you one?

Advice to Read

[Magic City Column]

By Nan S Russell

  •  When we think we work for other people instead of working for ourselves, we're less likely to make the investments in self-development, put in the time and determination, or make the trade-offs necessary to achieve the goals we desire.
  • When we think we work for "the boss" we're less likely to push ourselves, take on the challenging project, volunteer for extra assignments, or offer the best of who we are to our work, whatever that work may be.

Better Together

  • People who are winning at working understand that each person brings different talents and unique abilities to the workplace. Some of us are the trainers, not the players; the techies not the promoters; the teachers not the students; the visionaries not the tactical creators. Some of us are the cheerleaders, supporters, and encouragers that nurture others' success. Some of us are the stars and some of us are the supporting cast that enables stars to shine.

Life may be like a box chocolates, but generally speaking, if you want chocolates, you need to get off your bottom and go buy some for yourself!
