Decontructing, Collating, Rewriting

 
Deconstructing an article
 
 
An article is based on some written or imagined Outline.
 
Deconstructing an article is about looking for that outline within the Text provided.
 
 
Collating information
 
Collating information is about Collecting information from different sources and then arranging the information into an order so that similar information is grouped together.
 
 
Writing about the Collated information
 
 
Once you have all the information gathered, you have to decide what your FOCUS will be in writing.  What is the main idea that you want people to notice.  What is the emphasis of your writing.
 
Then you have to arrange your outline so that it will serve your purpose.  See Last Box left column.

Collating the 3 essays:
 
 
OK.  You have 3 different essays with information presented in different format, and with some different information in each.
 
In class, Tuesday 24th February, students were following the outline that appeared when we Deconstructed just one Essay.
 
But what do you do when you are looking at the Outlines that appear when you deconstruct 3 essays (Books - newspaper articles or what have you) on the same subject.
 
You have to Collate the information.
 
You Bring it all together.
 
First - Remove repetious information.
 
Second - you look at what you have left.
 
Third - you decide what points there are that you don't want to write about. Remove them.
 
Fourth -  Look at what you have left.  Look for some ORDER - coherency - logical connections in the information.
 
Fifth - Work out an outline
 
Sixth - Start writing.
 
Seventh - Re-write
 
Eighth - Re-write
 
Ninth - Re-write
 
Tenth - Check all spelling and grammar
 
Finally - Make sure that the facts are right.   If 3 articles contain the same facts we might presume that the information is correct (but not always). 
 
But we must be careful of information that in unique to just one article.
 
Disagreements:  Where different articles disagree on Facts (not opinions) - then we need to check the facts.

Taiwan's development process, including the indigenous people, early Chinese Taiwanese, Hakka immigrants, Dutch, Spanish, Japanese and the Chinese mainland in the future immigrants, and people here are emphasis on the preservation of traditional culture, but also the progressive development of a new culture, at the same time, you can see on the Taiwan aboriginies, as well as local Chinese culture, can also enjoy the Netherlands, Japan left by history.
