How not to answer the Telephone
This wonderful letter was sent to me from a former student in Hubei. The trials and tribulations of his attempt to gain an interview should be a lesson to us all when we are the ones who must answer the telephone in our company.
Text BoxWie geht es Ihnen? Yes, I'm writing to you again. But this time the article is allowed to be shared by your readers at "Luolaoshi English Lessons". It's another stupid thing with a serious appearance. But I can't help it to ask you, my friend to grant me the grace of being an article in your site. If there's anything improper, be my guest. Though we had been taught as English major students for over 3 years, most of us were more likely to end up with some other careers. I think that is a necessary method to enlarge our choice since there are so many English learners in China. Thus, pure English learners without other skills(I mean interest in business, education or politics), including me, were those who were bound to nose for English associated jobs. To revenge all the patience I dedicated to Transn my dear, I dialed the lovely number(the latter four digits 8888 are considered to be quite auspicious in China). An inviting voice of female, a most disguised melody of Siren showed something of hospitality to me. I accepted it as a sign of good and told her my request politely. I asked her to get me to the line of HR department, she replied me with something that shocked my eager soul:"There is no one at the HR department. May I keep a message for you?" I kept in silence after my first call. Then I decided to pay another call on the other day because my fellow roommates received calls from their wanted companies immediately after they delivered the CV. For quite a moment, I managed to restore my faith and my strenghth to fight against these fiends. Anyway, I dialed the haunting number again, the same female , the same request of honesty and politeness, but another experience of surprise. The line was simply cut when I finished my last word! I made it through, and I was confronted with the same fiend again. She was "wildly surprised" by my complaints that she linked me to a wrong line in her last operation during a call several minutes ago. Then, to the surprise of my own, I managed to deliver the same request again, to this cunning and rude female devil! She made up some stories that confused me. I thought she was telling me that there was no HR department at all. OK, whatever you say, just give your phone to someone knows something or at least to someone who didn't take drug in his or her work time. So, I told her just leave the phone to someone who was answering for personnel issues. She said the line was busy, and cut the line again. But dignity is something that could only be graced by yourself and thus be enriched by others. If you ceased to protect it or to feel the existence of it, what you've lost will be far more that you'll get. | But dignity is something that could only be graced by yourself and thus be enriched by others. Text BoxA Little Business Knowledge:
Cash flow is one of the most important aspects of running any business - large or small. It is one of the single most important reasons why many businesses fail - regardless of how good the business is. Managing cash flow therefore is vitally important in the smooth running, survival and success of a business.
What does 'accounting' mean? Accounting means keeping a record of the money that you spend and the money you receive during a period of time. For businesses, keeping accounts is an essential part of the process of running the business. If you have no idea of what you have spent or what you have received, it is difficult to know how the business is doing - are you surviving? Are you making a profit? Are you making a loss?
Fixed costs or overheads or indirect costs are those costs that do not depend on output. This does not mean that they do not change, they do, but they do not vary with the amount produced. These costs can be insurance, admin costs, advertising and marketing costs and, very relevant in the case of Eurotunnel, interest payments. In general, a firm must seek to cover its operating (variable) costs in the short term - after all, if it is not generating enough revenue from sales to cover the costs of producing its product it does not have much of a future! However, in the longer term it must, ultimately, cover both its fixed costs and its variable costs - in other words cover total costs. Once it does this, the business moves into profit. Text BoxText BoxBeing a Salesperson:
Why do so few sales people get rich? (Shanghai Daily) 2006-12-13 There is a dominant rule in sales industry that the top 20 percent of sales people make 80 percent of the money - which means the bottom 80 percent only earn the remaining 20 percent. According to industrial statistics, sales people often earn more than many other professionals including doctors, lawyers and architects. "It is key to win the trust of your clients. You have to do two things: The first is not to let down your clients - always live up to what you have promised," says Han. "The second is to think from their point of view. It is better if you can figure out something ahead of your clients and provide corresponding solutions." "Success is not an accident. Failure is not an accident either. In fact, success is predictable. It leaves tracks." "Your expectations are pivotal because research shows that you cannot earn more than 10 percent above or below what you expect to earn. To increase your sales, expand your self-concept to accommodate an expectation of reaching higher goals. To win a consumer, salespersons should seek the connection between the products and these motives. "Asking open-ended questions - the kind that require more than a yes-or-no answer - is a great tool for getting your clients to talk about themselves," says Tracy.
