July 8, 2008: Our six sigma workshop was a tremendous success! Len Weibel, JSFG member, and Betty Hakes, ISSSC marketing representative, presented to 32 people for two hours to give an overview of the process. See their presentation on the Special Interest Group web page.
Training Workshops
In addition to the weekly meeting, Job Search Focus Group provides many opportunities throughout the month to participate in educational programs and seminars on various job search topics and strategies. These are generally posted a few weeks in advance on our calendar. Facilitators are skilled professionals from the Tri-State business community. Some are current or former JSFG members. All are experts in their fields and many offer their services free of charge to the Job Search Focus Group members.
Workshops can include:
- Connecting and Networking
- Six Sigma Introduction and History
- Résumé Writing These workshops cover the basic types of résumés and helps participants select the right type to get them in to the interview.
- Interviewing Skills This workshop covers all aspects of interviewing, including: how to prepare, types of interviews (including the dreaded behavioral interview), questions asked during interviews, body language, understanding the interviewing process, what employers look for in candidates, questions to ask during the interview, evaluating a job offer, negotiating techniques, and do's and don'ts.
- Developing Marketing Tools This workshop will help participants with the total interview process from inception of phone call to follow-up, including: How to develop a résumé, creating cover letters, managing references, completing applications and business cards.
- Job Search Strategies This workshop will help participants with: how to network, use the internet, how to respond to advertisements, working with recruiters, making cold calls and how to market yourself.
