Senior staff at John J. Christie and Associates attended the grand opening on Dec. 2 of the new Orlando Fire Department headquarters and Fire Station No. 1 on West Central Boulevard in downtown Orlando. The 59,000-square-foot, $17 million fire station will house more than 70 firefighters and will serve as the fire department’s headquarters. It also will house hazardous materials units, rescue teams, fire safety management and the arson/bomb squad. The project is LEED® registered with certification goal of Gold.

John J. Christie and Associates provided MEP engineering design services for the project. The new station, which is the city’s sixth building certified with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design by the U.S. Green Building Council, replaces the former 18,000-square-foot Fire Station No. 1, which will be demolished to make way for the planned Dr. P. Phillips Orlando Performing Arts Center.
