TEXAS STATE INITIATIVE
- A state mandated requirement of the College or University Registration process
- It is NOT an admissions process
- Any student entering a Texas public college or university isrequired to test in a TSI approved test if he/she cannot providedocumentation of an exemption from testing
- Implemented by the state to ensure students enrolling in publichigher education institutions possess the necessary academic skills in reading, writing, and math to succeed
- Replaced TASP on September 1, 2003
- Students who are not TSI exempt or waived and who test in a TSI Approved Test but fail all or a portion of the test are required by Texas Law to obtain TSI Advising and to enroll in a formal program of skills development each semester. The student must remain in a developmental class each semester until the student either retests and passes all sections of a TSI Approved Test or completes the required developmental course sequence of classes with a grade of “C” or better.

THEA is offered at testing sites statewide
- Students may go to the website for Thea Information , to register or to take a practice test.
- Accuplacer, Compass, Asset tests can be taken at any Public College or University that offers these tests
- Before testing at another college or university, students must verify that the school is willing to issue the student an official score report that they can submit to the school they plan to enroll or is willing to fax a score report directly to the school.
- Some schools are not willing to share results if the student does not attend their institution.
- Out-of-state students must make sure they test in the proper areas of each test.
