What is a School Travel Plan?

A School Travel Plan is a package of measures that aims to reduce congestion through the reduction of unnecessary travel and the promotion of healthier alternatives such as walking and cycling. It should be a document owned by the whole school and local community, with an agreed set of actions.

Why School Travel Plans?

  • Car journeys have almost doubled in the last 10 years
  • During peak times, 20% of traffic on urban roads are involved inthe school run
  • Obesity has trebled in England in the last 20 years
  • 1.4 million children suffer from asthma
