We used this site to show how electrons fill orbital shells (and subshells) http://www.keithcom.com/atoms/ These were the most commonly used interactive Periodic Table websites that helped students learn about atomic properties and common applications of elements: 1) http://www.periodictable.com/
2) http://www.webelements.com/
3) http://periodic.lanl.gov/default.htm
Attached are the two major assignments for this unit: "Alternative Periodic Tables" and "Meet the Elements". In the "Alternative Periodic Table" assignment, students build a model of a non-traditional periodic table that still captured the scientific logic/information of a standard periodic table. In the "Meet the Elements" assignment, students randomly selected two elements from the periodic table and created mini posters of the elements. The inspiration for the project can be seen here. |
