Finish started work from class today for homework and brainstorm on ideas for the other two sections. This is due at the end of class tomorrow! See the handouts section for all class handouts.
You’ve just been selected to put together a comprehensive plan for one of the two major presidential candidates in the 2008 election. It is up to you to use your knowledge of political polling, political parties & ideology, the electoral process, the Electoral College, the media, voter participation, and the candidates’ platforms to help your candidate win.
Your final strategy should include the following:
- A piece of Campaign Literature (pamphlet, leaflet, postcard, television/radio ad) that both promotes your candidate’s platform and attacks your opponents.
- Electoral Map that includes in depth information on at least two battleground states and how you can tailor your message to the culture in those states.
- Media Campaign – At least five radio, television, or newspaper outlets that you wish to use to your advantage and how you plan to use them to your advantage.
- Get Out the Vote – Explain whom your “base” will be and how you will energize them on Election Day. If you plan includes a segment of the population that does not traditionally vote or is not registered, you must include a plan that shows how you will involve these voters in the process.

DUE 10/27 For homework, find an article for the current events journals that relates to the elections. You an connect this to class by talking about polling, political parties, political ideologies, or third party candidates. Remember your journals should be at least one page in your journal. If you did not finish it in class, create a third party political campaign poster. Attached are the summaries for political parties you could choose from. Project Description: You will design a political poster for a fictional presidential candidate for one of the following third parties: the Constitution Party, the Green Party, the Independent American Party, the Libertarian Party, or the Reform Party. After reading the briefing sheet, brainstorm on ideas that your candidate would represent. You poster should contain the candidates name, a campaign slogan, at least one major issue, and multiple images. You poster will be graded in the following areas: - Enduring Understanding: Do the views shown in your poster represent the history, mission, and platform of the political party you chose?
